Web Browsers redirecting Google search results because of Rootkit/Malware

I’m not sure if any of you have run across any PCs experiencing problems searching Google. I have run across a couple Windows XP boxes over the past few months that appear to be searching Google correctly, but the results redirect to various other web sites. I scanned these machines several times with MalwareBytes and other antivirus, finding a few minor infections, but this problem still existed. Finally I found TDSSKiller. TDSSKiller is a free product from Kaspersky that not only finds the rootkit on your system that causes this problem, but actually will remove it. It is a very simple tool to run, and I have had it find the rootkit on all the systems I’ve found having these problems. You can download the TDSSKiller utility from Kaspersky at http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208283363. I followed up the removal of the rootkit by running another full scan with MalwareBytes. Good luck. I really hope this will save hours of repair attempts for someone else!
