Migrating Samba on CentOS 5 to Centos 6

I had to migrate my Samba config from a CentOS5 box to a CentOS6 box. Samba was newer on the CentOS6 box. It was using Samba 3.5, while the CentOS 5 box still had Samba 3.0. The migration was pretty simple, after I found where to drop the key files.

In Samba 3, the config files are all in /etc/samba. This includes the security files, too.

In Samba 3.5, the main smb.conf is still located in the /etc/samba folder, but the other two security files (passdb.tdb and secrets.tdb) are now located in /var/lib/samba/private/.

I found this information on this post by philo on the CentOS forum: https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?viewmode=flat&topic_id=27098&forum=37
